What is Ganjifa?

Ganjifa are circular playing cards, hand-painted on lacquered board, cloth or ivory, and used in India from the Mughal period onward. A pack runs to eight, ten or twelve suits of twelve cards each, two of them court cards, so a full set can exceed a hundred and forty. Suits are often given the ten avatars of Vishnu.
