An appointment request is a request
The museum is open by prior appointment only. Submitting the booking form sends the museum a request for a date and a time. It does not confirm a visit. Your appointment exists when the museum has replied and told you it does. Until then the slot is held provisionally and may be given to a group booking or lost to a closure.
If a date has to change, the museum will write to you at the address you gave. If you need to cancel or move, please tell us in advance — the visit is a curator's time, set aside for you.
The museum may decline a request, may close for maintenance, for a private event or for a public holiday, and may end a visit that puts the collection at risk.
Catalogue and editorial information
The museum publishes what it can support. Attributions, dates and provenance in the catalogue are curatorial opinions arrived at from the evidence available, and they are marked when they are uncertain — attributed to, probably, a range of centuries rather than a year. They may be revised as more is known, and revision is a sign the catalogue is being maintained rather than that it was wrong.
Journal entries carry the name of the person who wrote them and the date they were published. Where a piece describes places other than this museum — the guides to Jaipur, for instance — opening hours and admission are deliberately not published, because they change; check with each institution.
Nothing on this site is advice about the value, authenticity or saleability of any object. The museum does not value, authenticate or appraise objects for the public.
